Science of Hypnosis – Deeper Dive FAQ

When is the Best Time to do Self-Hypnosis? What is TOO early/late?

Right now!

Seriously, the best time to practice self-hypnosis is when you are fresh and alert. So early in the day is good. Not too early when your mind may still be too close to the brink of the sleep that you just woke up from. Because in that state of mind, the typical feeling that you would get from self-hypnosis, which is for many people a lot like daydreaming, your mind would wander easily to the point that you could drift back to sleep.

An amazing thing about self-hypnosis, though, is that you can use it to reinvigorate your focus and concentration. So when you have a tough day and your energy reserves run low, self-hypnosis is a great tool to sharpen your senses again for the rest of the day. So mid day is typically a good time. And that is my advice to you: When you focus on a goal, practice self-hypnosis sometime during the course of the day, not too early and not too late, whether that be before, during or after work. But if your goal is to achieve better sleep, practice self-hypnosis right before bed.

As you can see, there’s no real right or wrong time of the day to practice self-hypnosis. It’s all about why you do the self-hypnosis, that will drive when’s the best time.

At first, when you still learn to engage in this process of self-hypnosis, it is best to schedule a time and place. When you see me on a one-on-one basis, we will agree on a time and the place for our session. So in that way you are almost like forced to comply. When it’s all up to you to select the time and place for self-hypnosis, you will find many excuses.

There is no such thing as finding the time - it’s about making the time. This is a time for you and your personal improvement. So sign a contract with yourself that you commit to, at least in the beginning, that you would do this at a set time regularly - perhaps once or twice a day at first. Then later, once a week would be fine.
