Science of Hypnosis – Deeper Dive FAQ
What if I can’t Wake-Up from Hypnosis? Is Hypnosis Dangerous? Can I get Trapped?

Hypnosis is a process that results in an altered state of awareness. Hypnosis is not sleep, in any shape or form. So there is no risk that you won’t be able to wake-up from it.

This altered state of mind is natural, exactly like you experience right before you finally drift off to sleep, except that this altered state of mind would be directed towards something rather than just allowing yourself to drift off to sleep. And as you know, it’s easy to snap out of that state of mind if anything should need your urgent attention. So there really is no risk that you would become trapped in a state of hypnosis. It’s a Hollywood myth, much like it is a Hollywood myth that shooting at a car will make the car go BOOM!
To be clear: You remain fully aware of your surroundings. Your conscious attention may drift, like what happens when you daydream, or get lost in thought. You already have all the experience in the world that you need to be able to emerge from hypnosis.
